Aleix Espargaró recovered from the slump suffered in recent races to lead the FP3 of the Valencia Grand Prix, the last of the season and the scene of Valentino Rossi’s farewell after 26 years in the World Championship, with the star from Tavullia qualifying directly for Q2 by signing the tenth fastest time of training and of the weekend.
The negative note of the session was Pol Espargaró’s terrifying crash at turn 13 a little over 12 minutes from the end of the session, the Honda rider was left lying on the escape area and was taken off the track on a stretcher and transferred by ambulance to the medical center, where he was being visited by doctors.
Behind Aleix, Jack Miller finished as first Ducati with Franco Morbidelli third, completing the top five two more Italian motorcycles, those of Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martín.
Joan Mir with the Suzuki, Takaaki Nakagami as the first Honda and Johann Zarco will also be in Q2, while Fabio Quartararo, after a difficult weekend, managed to place ninth at the last moment, closing the top 10 Valentino.
Alex Rins, Pol Espargaró due to the crash, Iker Lecuona, who also crashed at the last minute but without consequences, Alex Márquez, who was 16th, Maverick Viñales, Andrea Dovizioso and a surprising Enea Bastianini who finished 21st and last, were left out.
