Alex Márquez analyzes his worst season with LCR in MotoGP

Alex Márquez says goodbye to a 2021 marked by the absence of relevant results in his locker. The youngest of the Márquez family finished sixth at Le Mans and fourth in the second race at Portimao, his best result of the season. However, after two second-place finishes in his rookie year, the team’s expectations of him were higher.

“2021 was not an easy year, especially at the beginning of the season. It was the same for all the Honda riders, but we worked very hard and together with the HRC team we were able to improve significantly throughout the year,” says Alex.

“Of course it could have been better, but compared to the beginning of the season it wasn’t bad. Confidence and feelings were better”, compares the LCR team rider. “If you fight like I did in 2021, then it’s a good year to learn as a driver. If you have a lot of problems, then you learn to try to become a better driver.

The pre-season test in Jerez gave the Cervera rider hope. “I tested the new prototype in Jerez in November. I had a great feeling with that bike. Some improvements were really good, especially the grip on the rear wheel was much better because that was our problem in 2021.

However, technical improvements are not the only ones responsible for achieving better results. “I know I have to improve. It’s not just the bike, but the potential is there,” confirms Alex.

“I have to improve in the different conditions and try to become a more complete driver. I have to try to be at the front all the time and not show such inconsistent performances as in 2021.”

The premier class riders are preparing to race in Sepang and Indonesia during the upcoming pre-season tests. “We only have five days to prepare. Each day will be very important to draw conclusions and generate the right feeling so that we arrive in Qatar well prepared,” concluded the youngest of the Márquez.
