Alex Márquez: "I felt comfortable with the 2022 Honda from the beginning"

The youngest of the brothers from Cervera (Lleida) starred in a complicated 2021 season, where he finished 16th in the championship. The Catalan scored two podiums in his MotoGP debut a year ago, but this season he left empty after falling just short of achieving it in the penultimate race in Portugal.

Márquez, like the rest of the Honda riders, was condemned this season for a “critical” RC213V that led the brand’s riders to star in a quarter of the crashes in MotoGP in 2021.

After Marc Márquez was discharged due to his eye injury and with Pol Espargaró still injured from the accident he suffered in the last GP in Valencia, the #73 was in charge of putting the new Honda on the asphalt in the Jerez test last November, with which he was very satisfied.

“I think the year 2022 is exciting,” commented the LCR team driver after a visit to the Estrella Galicia Museum in A Coruña (MEGA) . “Honda has changed the bike to a totally different concept, I was able to test it in Jerez and I say that it is exciting because from the beginning it was a bike that we did not know, but the times were good and we felt quite comfortable”.

“We have won things and we have lost others, we have to finish understanding and we have a lot of work ahead of us but, as I say, the times are good and that is positive. We hope to be much more regular and be among the top 8 for 2022” , he added.

During the visit, the two-time world champion was also able to remember his successes in Moto3 and Moto2, where he was already accompanied by the Galician brewery.

“In these ten years in MotoGP for Estrella Galicia 0.0, the memory that I have most present and that I will always have in my memory is Valencia 2014. Estrella Galicia 0.0’s first title as main sponsor of Moto3 was very nice. Not anymore not only winning and being there, but seeing the entire Rivera family celebrating the title was very exciting and beautiful. It is a memory that I will always keep in mind”, he stressed.
