Alex Rins could take over from Kenny Roberts in MotoGP 2022

The Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit is one of the favorite tracks for Spanish riders in the premier class, as a total of 14 victories belong to national riders. This is the 36th consecutive year that the championship has come to the Andalusian track since its debut in 1987, and its history has left us with the victories of emblematic figures such as Alberto Puig in 1995, Alex Crivillé in 1997, 1998 and 1999 and Sete Gibernau in 2004, who, together with the latest generation of MotoGP riders, stole the hearts of fans at the symbolic Jerez circuit.

Dani Pedrosa, who climbed to the top of the Andalusian podium in 2008, 2013 and 2017, was in charge of continuing Spanish history on this track, followed by Jorge Lorenzo in 2010, 2011 and 2015, and Marc Márquez in 2014, 2018 and 2019. However, while MotoGP dyed its locker with our colors, the Jerez track surrendered to the Italian talent of Valentino Rossi, who managed to sign a total of six victories on the Spanish circuit.

Despite finding a variety of manufacturers on this list, you have to go back a few years to locate Suzuki’s last win at Jerez. Over two decades ago, Kenny Roberts Jr was winning the 500cc race on his way to the world title in 2000. And since then, no Suzuki rider has been able to match this result in the premier class. The closest rider to come close to that first position was Alex Rins, who finished second in 2019, giving the Japanese team its best result on this track.

After a hangover charged with adrenaline and motivation after his result in Portugal, Alex Rins could have it all with him to get his GSX-RR to the top of the Andalusian podium, as this year Suzuki is going through its best start to the season in its history.

The Japanese team shows its best result at the start of the season -so far- with 115 points, two podiums and six occasions in the top five, far from the numbers presented in 2016 (91 points and one podium) and in 2007 (103 points, one victory and two podiums). Thus, the Catalan rider could be the chosen one to break, this weekend, with the unfortunate past of the Suzuki Ectsar in this circuit.
