Alexander Albon is discharged and is recovering at home

Alexander Albon had to undergo surgery for appendicitis last weekend, coinciding with the celebration of the Italian Grand Prix. The Williams driver fell ill the same morning on Saturday, so he was unable to race at Monza. The English team then called on Nyck de Vries to replace him. But the operation did not go well .

“Following the operation, Alex suffered unexpected post-operative anesthetic complications leading to respiratory failure, a known but rare complication. He was re-intubated and transferred to intensive care,” Grove’s team said on Monday.

“He was re-intubated and transferred to intensive care. He has made excellent progress overnight and was able to be weaned off mechanical ventilation yesterday morning.”

Williams confirmed to BBC Sport that Albon’s condition had improved enough to allow him to leave hospital on Tuesday and continue his recovery at his home in Monaco.

The Anglo-Thai driver still intends to compete in the Singapore Grand Prix. Fortunately, the Asian date is scheduled for the weekend of September 30-October 2, giving him a full two weeks to recover before flying to Marina Bay.

In case of not arriving on time, everything indicates that de Vries would once again be the one chosen to take his seat, after having beaten Nicholas Latifi and added two points in Monza.
