Fernando Alonso managed to finish in the first free practice in Monza in seventh position , and although he was behind his teammate, Esteban Ocon, at various times he came within a few tenths of Ferrari’s fastest times. In the afternoon session, the man from Oviedo stayed on the line, but a few places further back, since he finished ninth , a few thousandths behind the French driver.
Thanks to these performances, the two-time world champion, after getting off the car, gave his impressions and they were not bad at all: “Today has been another good Friday for us in Monza, we have tried everything we wanted, and we have obtained a lot of data tips on tires for this weekend”.
However, the Spaniard revealed that there was an effect that many seemed to have eliminated in their cars: “The porpoising of the car seems greater here than in previous weekends, but apart from that, it has been a Friday of practice without problems and well executed. for the team.”
On the day before going out on the track, Alonso ruled out the possibility of getting on the podium, although he joked about the options of moving up the starting grid due to the sanctions on several of the favorites. Despite the difficulties involved, taking advantage of a track that is going so well for the French team would not be unreasonable.
The team’s sports director, Alan Permane , made similar statements to those of the Asturian, being cautious about what awaits Alpine: “It has been a very normal Friday for today in Monza, where we have been comfortably within the top ten in the table of positions with both cars”.
“We have executed a standard program, we have not encountered any surprises, and everything is ready for us to have a competitive test,” he said. “Of course we race here under sad circumstances following the news of Her Majesty The Queen’s passing yesterday.
