Silverstone hosts the tenth round of a 2022 F1 season that is approaching its halfway point. This weekend’s British GP is the first of four rounds in July, before the summer break, and teams and drivers are looking for a hot run to head into the holidays with high motivation.
Alpine, which currently occupies fifth position in the constructors’ championship, six points ahead of Alfa Romeo and nine behind McLaren, will introduce a package of improvements to its car in a race in which, like so many others, they ‘play’ as local media.
Speaking of that update in the run-up to the Silverstone race, manager Pat Fry expressed his confidence that he had taken a step in the right direction. “In the first few races of the season the A522 behaved better in the fast corners than in the slower ones, but the developments we have carried out have helped to balance that,” he began.
“The main unknown at Silverstone is usually the weather but, rain or dry, we have the ability to be competitive. Everyone at Enstone has worked incredibly hard to create and fit a reasonably large upgrade package to the car and in time to this race, including a new floor and updated bodywork.
“It’s been a huge effort on the part of the team to get this update ready, so credit is due to those involved for keeping up the intense schedule of updates to the car so far this season.”
For his part, Fernando Alonso celebrated the arrival of a circuit where he has achieved three pole positions, two victories and six podiums: “Silverstone is a classic race on the calendar. It is a real circuit and usually offers good action on the track. being unpredictable with the weather, sometimes there are very hot summer days and other times it rains a lot and the winds can be quite strong at the circuit”.
“Whatever the weather, I’m sure it will be a fun weekend,” Alonso confirmed.
The two-time champion hopes to leave behind the bad luck he has suffered at this start of the world championship, and showed his confidence in a car that has shown, at specific moments, to allow him to shine: “It seems that we are constantly in the top ten, and sometimes a little higher up, especially in one-lap pace.
“However, it looks like we’ve had a lot of bad luck so far in 2022. We’ve had reliability issues, but also incidents and safety cars at inopportune times. There’s more to come and we’ve seen the potential is there. I’m excited to see how we do in the next few races,” said the #14.

His teammate Esteban Ocon believes that in the last race they showed that they can aspire to be the ‘best of the rest’ in the world championship for teams: “We left Canada with a feeling of pride after getting good points in the race. We had a car to add double the points and the objective was to change the dynamic in the fight for fourth place in the constructors’ championship, and we have achieved it”.
“Now we come to the next round with the aim of fighting further up the grid. We brought some improvements to Silverstone so hopefully we can have a good couple of races. For my part this week I have been in the factory analyzing the last race with the engineers and getting ready in the simulator for the next two”.
“Not how the whole team is looking forward to Silverstone, one of our two home races.”
