After putting an end to his losing streak in his home race, with a ninth position in the Spanish Grand Prix after starting from last place, Fernando Alonso arrives with completely renewed enthusiasm at one of the most historic circuits in the calendar; Monte Carlo.
Just five days after the conclusion of the event in Barcelona, the Formula 1 single-seaters will hit the streets of the Principality to compete in the first free practice sessions for the Monaco Grand Prix, which for the first time will take place on a Friday and not on a Thursday .
Having savored the points standings for the first time since the opening race at the Bahrain Grand Prix, Alonso will be hoping to score again in Monte Carlo . Although he knows that it will not be an easy task, the Spaniard acknowledged that he is eager to face this new challenge.
“I’ve always loved racing in Monaco. It’s one of the biggest events on the Formula 1 calendar. I think with the new cars this year it’s going to be even more challenging than normal, because of all the low speed corners.”
“As we know, if you make a small mistake on the streets of Monaco, you end up against the barriers. Qualifying is also very difficult due to the traffic you encounter during a lap.”
“I’m looking forward to the challenge!” he said to finish.
From the team, the sports director of the French structure, Otmar Sazafnauer , also made a small balance of what they expect in Alpine this weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix.
“First of all, what an exciting race we had in Spain. It was a lot of fun, lots of stops and overtaking, so I’m sure it was a great show for all the fans.”
“Now we are all looking forward to Monaco. It is an incredibly special place and a very historic and important race track for Formula 1, where we all enjoy racing.”
“Clearly with the nature of the walls and the tight corners it’s a tricky place to overtake in the race. We have to make sure our one lap pace is good and overall we haven’t been as quick on Saturday as we were on Saturday. Friday so far,” the Alpine sporting director concluded.
