The Formula 1 summer vacations are nearing the end and the drivers are beginning to reactivate, this is the case of Fernando Alonso, Alpine driver, who has taken a few minutes to speak on Instagram during a broadcast made by his sponsor RAW, where there was also Aleix Espargaró, rider and contender for the MotoGP title .
During the conversation, Alonso pointed out that in Formula 1 sometimes things are more closed than in other sports, such as the coexistence that can be found in cycling or, the camaraderie in MotoGP where the pilots sleep in the paddock in special transports, creating a unique atmosphere.
“Perhaps in F1, rather, unfortunately, we do not have the friendship that there is in other sports. In cycling you have your teammates and rivals and it seems that there is a good atmosphere, ” Alonso said during the conversation organized by RAW.
“In F1 there is a lot of distance between all the drivers, secrecy, a lot of ego in the paddock between everyone,” said the Alpine driver, referring to the different situations that can be found in other sports.
In the conversation, Alonso received questions about his future plans. The Spaniard is known to have signed a multi-year contract with Aston Martin to race with them from 2023, an option that did not seem clear at Alpine where they preferred to go season by season.
The two-time world champion pointed out that the break he took from Formula 1 in 2018, when he competed in the Dakar Rally or in the FIA World Endurance Championship , among other things, served to recharge his batteries and for now It does not have an expiration date marked on the calendar, although one thing is clear: motorsport will always be with it.

“No, I don’t have anything calculated,” he said, “as we said before, sport is our life, it has been since we were children, we know we have an expiration date. We are not going to work until we are 65 like in other jobs, you try to enjoy yourself and take advantage of it as much as you can.
“Going back to F1 was an attractive challenge and it went well. I’m comfortable with the car. I feel fast and fit. Now, with the signing for two more years with another team, you renew your illusions a bit and hopefully it goes well .
“I think I will never retire from motorsport. From sport at the highest level, F1, I will retire when I am not happy… but outside of Formula 1 there are other less demanding categories.
“In my case when I left F1 in 2018, those two years I was exhausted mentally and physically from all the commitments that driving requires. In this new stage I don’t have that same stress or fatigue. I also don’t know how long I will continue in F1”, said the Spaniard to finish.
