Alonso: "When the car goes well the truth is that you have fun"

The Alpine rider was ecstatic after qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix. In an unprecedented circuit in Formula 1 , Fernando Alonso finished fifth, his best position since the start of the season. The Asturian is ambitious for the race and warns his rivals; if there is degradation, it will be better for Alpine.

The car was fantastic over the weekend . The circuit is super, a lot of fun to drive. He said on the radio that I would have stayed all night driving here if they put gas on me. It’s fantastic and the car, when it goes well, the truth is that you have fun ”, Fernando Alonso began in Dazn after the qualifying session for the Qatar Grand Prix.

“We have found a good set-up and now, with new tires and little fuel, the truth is that it feels good. But Saturdays are of little use . Points are awarded tomorrow. Sometimes we have made good or worse Saturdays. The last one I started fifth in Turkey, I was twenty in the first corner , so we have to try to avoid that ”, added the Spaniard, alluding to what happened in Istanbul. In said Grand Prix, although he classified in a worse position, Fernando Alonso came out fifth favored by the sanctions. However, after being rammed by Yuki Tsunoda , he was relegated to the back of the grid.

Asked if the soft tire or the medium works better in Qatar, the Spaniard pointed out: “We don’t have all the information as it is a new circuit. But in general, our car always takes good care of the tires. In Brazil we were one of the few who made a stop so, if there is degradation, I think it would be better for us ”.

Finally, showing off his irony, Fernando Alonso claimed to have raised his foot on his last timed lap to avoid being involved in a new controversy. Referring to the incident involving Pierre Gasly, who punctured his tire on the finish line, the Spaniard commented: “I saw a car inside. As in Turkey I did a time with the yellow flag and there was a mess, I preferred to keep the fifth position and lift ”.
