Like the vast majority of teams, Alpine brought a large package of upgrades to the Spanish GP, including a high-downforce rear wing, a revised front wing and modified rear brake drums.
At the Azerbaijan GP, the French team drew attention for its new sidepods, as well as a low-drag front and rear wing, while for Montreal they brought a more efficient beam wing.
However, while some rivals have put the brakes on new parts in order to stay within the cost limit, Alpine continues to push ahead and will arrive at Silverstone with a substantial upgrade package.
“We’ve got a lot of updates coming in, so we should take a good step forward,” Ocon said.
“So yeah, we have high hopes, it’s going to be a great week, starting from Tuesday [in the simulator], so there’s a lot of work ahead of us. And yeah, hopefully we can have a good performance, because the car is where it should be.”
At the moment, Alpine is in fifth position in the Formula 1 World Championship in 2022, just eight points behind McLaren after having closed the gap in the last five races, with those from Enstone adding a total of 35 points, for the Woking 19.
In Montreal, Fernando Alonso did a fantastic job to start from second, although in the race he struggled and dropped to seventh, just one position behind Ocon, before receiving a penalty and dropping to ninth.
The Frenchman said he was happy to see his team work and continue to develop the current car, something that is shown by the progress Alpine has made, superior to some of its rivals.
“It’s very motivating,” said Ocon when asked by Motorsport.com about the next improvements coming to the A522. “The team is working hard to get the updates out sooner than planned.”
“What we’re putting into the car is going in the right direction. And I think since the beginning of the year, we’ve improved more than other teams. So yeah, I think we can be happy and say we’re on the right track.” French pilot.
