Alpine F1 reacts to withdrawal of Alonso's sanction

Alpine has been at the center of all eyes upon arrival at the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome to compete in the Mexican Grand Prix. The French team left Austin last weekend highly upset with the penalty imposed on Fernando Alonso.

The Asturian suffered a spectacular impact with Lance Stroll in the middle of the United States Grand Prix race, covering several meters on two wheels. However, he was able to save the accident and was able to continue in the race.

Although he was making up positions, his Alpine was quite damaged, and one of his mirrors ended up detaching from the bodywork. Although Fernando crossed the finish line in a creditable seventh place, the FIA sanctioned him with 30 seconds , after Haas reported the incident to the stewards.

That decision sparked great controversy, and made many wonder why punishments of such caliber had not been handed down in similar situations in the past.

As expected, Alpine appealed the decision upon arrival in Mexico City, but the regulatory body considered that there was no possible appeal . “According to the FIA sporting regulations, neither party has the right to protest a decision of the stewards or the decisions of an audience.”

Even so, in the purest FIA style, a few hours later the Asturian’s sanction was withdrawn , who will finally add seventh place in Austin to his locker.

“We thank the FIA for having reached a positive conclusion regarding the #14 car [Fernando Alonso’s] and what happened in the last United States Grand Prix,” Alpine commented on his social networks, shortly after knowing The final decision.

“We accept the stewards’ decision to give the #14 car back seventh place and all six points from the [Austin] race.”

“We look forward to continuing to collaborate and work with the FIA to ensure the show remains at the highest level. The team is now focused on this week’s race at the Mexican Grand Prix.”

Now, after Alonso regained 7th place, Esteban Ocon loses the 10th place he had inherited, but Alpine adds five more points, vital for the fight for fourth place in the constructors’ championship against McLaren.
