Alpine prepares Piastri and Doohan to make the jump to F1

The Australian rider managed to gain a foothold in Alpine’s youth development program thanks to his performances in the lower categories. At just 19 years old, the son of the motorcycling myth has managed to finish second in a championship as close as Formula 3, something he did last year.

Throughout the 20 tests he competed in, he managed to climb to the top of the podium four times, in addition to three more podiums, to add a total of 179 points, 26 points behind the champion, Dennis Hauger .

This earned him a place in Formula 2 during the last two rounds in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi , where he finished fifth in Jeddah and eighth in Yas Marina, which meant adding 7 points.

Now, Alpine, knowing that he has the Gold Coast under his belt, like his compatriot Oscar Piastri , will put him in a Formula 1 single-seater so that he can feel the sensation of the fastest car on the planet, with a possible jump to the world championship. in the future.

Jack Doohan joins as reserve driver for the three-day test at the Losail track, where last season’s F2 champion was lapping: “I’m super excited to be driving a Formula 1 car for the first time.”

“This is a moment that I have been preparing for since I started racing karts, and I know that these opportunities are extremely privileged,” he told the Australian. “I am very grateful to Alpine for the opportunity and I am looking forward to giving my best on test day.”

“I’ve seen behind the scenes of some private testing before, and I’ve completed a lot of preparation in the simulator at Enstone, so I definitely feel up to this challenge,” added Doohan. “I will make an effort, I will enjoy myself at the same time and I hope to learn as much as possible together with the team.”

His compatriot already drove the A521 last April in Austin, in addition to being present at the Miami Grand Prix to continue his development amid rumors about his arrival in the category.

“It’s been a productive two days of testing in Qatar, where I’ve continued to familiarize myself with the Formula 1 car. It’s been very hot both days, but that’s good for physical preparation,” said Piastri.

“The track hasn’t been used recently so there were different levels of grip and the conditions were quite dusty. It was challenging at times but it was important for me to learn how to drive in different conditions,” said the Melbourne native.

“I am looking forward to rejoining the F1 team in Barcelona and Monaco before my next day of private testing in June,” said Alpine’s next driver at the Grand Circus.
