Rumors about the return of Davide Brivio to the MotoGP World Championship after a season in Formula 1 have not stopped since the former Suzuki Team Manager , with whom he won the double crown of riders and teams in a surprising way in 2020, visited the paddock of the two-wheel championship last summer, during the Austrian Grand Prix, at the Red Bull Ring.
In recent weeks, information has intensified about a possible return to his previous position at Suzuki, where he would be welcomed with open arms, but it was also rumored that his destination was the team of his friend and former pupil Valentino Rossi, who the next season debuts in the largest class with the famous initials VR46 .
This last extreme, however, was discarded by Valentino himself in Misano, during the last weekend held there.
“With Davide we are united by a great friendship of many years, and many common projects during that time, but the truth is that we have not thought of him for our team, we have quite a decided organization chart”, assured the #46 that he will have in the Spanish Pablo Nieto to his team leader.
The only possibility for Brivio to return to MotoGP would be for Alpine, his current team and with whom he has one more year of contract, to release him.
In an exclusive Motorsport.com conversation with Laurent Rossi, CEO of Alpine, the executive saw MotoGP’s interest in bringing Brivio back as a good sign and that until the end of the season they will not decide on the Italian’s fit with the team. The problem is that the F1 season ends well into December, when a lot of work must already be done in the motorcycle championship for next year.
“On the MotoGP rumours, all I can say is that they are very positive about Davide. They all mention that without him a lot was lost there,” Rossi said.
“It is a good example of the value of a person like him, and that we know, it is something that he is showing in our team. He is definitely contributing a lot in terms of driver management. And also in the work that the team does on the track, helping with their sports experience, that is invaluable,” he said.
However, Rossi does not close the door to the fact that Brivio may not fit into the new organization chart that Alpine is preparing for 2022.
“As for the future, Davide , like any other person in the team, will evolve in the organization that I decide, following the changes that I will decide at the end of the season. He is no different from the rest of the staff,” he released as a piece of cold metal.
For his part, Fernando Alonso did not want to value the possibility too much, but he did agree with Laurent Rossi that it is good news for Alpine: “I have only read rumors and I have not given them much importance. Davide is an important person in the team. Yes talk about him in MotoGP is that they miss him. So we have a good man with us.”
