AMD Announces New Series of Mobile Computing Processors

AMD is taking advantage of the momentum of having achieved 40% market share in Mexico at the end of April to launch today its new 5000 series of Ryzen processors, with two families designed to be used in laptops for gamers and ultrathin, due to their combined reduced size with low power consumption, which make them ideal for this category.

The two families of the AMD Ryzen 5000 include the H Series and the U Series, the first one provides better performance in laptops for gaming and content creators, while the second is included in laptops that in addition to maintaining their good performance, can be thin , light, and with good battery life. The Ryzen H Series are models that go from the Ryzen 5, through the Ryzen 7 and reaching the Ryzen 9, but in the case of the U Series, the models start with the Ryzen 3, also include the Ryzen 5, and culminate with the Ryzen 7.

This new series of processors is based on AMD’s Zen 3 architecture, and its manufacturing process has been reduced to 7 nanometers. This, coupled with the combination of cores and threads – which go up to 8/16 – provides up to a 24% improvement in efficiency compared to the previous generation, Zen 2, according to the manufacturer. In the U series, for example, the Ryzen 7 5800U can grant up to 20 hours of autonomy on average with general use and up to 21 hours if it comes to movie playback.

According to AMD, the laptops that they bring to the Mexican market with Ryzen 5000 processors are designed for users who are looking for a lot of performance, in the case of the U Series with very thin models, and for those who prefer more power even if they have to sacrifice the size is the H series. This latest processor will be included in equipment for content creators, those looking for a portable workstation, and gamers .

Laptop manufacturers such as Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo already have in their catalog premium laptops with the most powerful versions of the Ryzen 5000 prepared for their families of gaming equipment: ROG, Alienware, Omen and Legion, respectively. Some of them are already on sale and there are others announced for the following months, in addition to a particular model from Huawei, which is not for gamers, but uses the H series.

Graphics card shortage

According to Miguel Ángel Velazquez, leader of the Consumer Division for AMD Mexico, models from brands such as Acer and MSI will soon be added. As they gain ground in the Mexican market, the demand for Ryzen processors increases, since in 2020 their sales represented 38% of the total, and currently this segment is reaching 65%. These teams are already available in department and specialized stores in Mexico.

It is important to note that much of what has been said in recent months is about the shortage of graphics cards that many of the users of this type of device need, as part of the over demand that the portable computing market has suffered are the impact of the lack of providers of this type of device.

Although AMD did not touch the subject, but it is a shadow that has haunted the company and other companies that depend on these types of inputs and so the costs of their computers have risen.
