American Royal BBQ: the most delicious competition in Kansas City

American Royal BBQ

American Royal BBQ’s annual World Series of BBQ (October 1-4, 2015) is one of the largest and best barbecue competitions in the country. Bring more than 550 grill teams from around the world to compete in Kansas City for BBQ and Fun Weekend. Teams fire up their grills on Friday and party until dawn (with a watchful eye on what’s cooking!) Only to compete for their entries in the judging room on Saturday. The American Royal is not to be missed on either day, and of course, you can sample true barbecue perfection.

Location and cost

For the first time in 2015, the American Royal BBQ competition will be held at Arrowhead Stadium at the Truman Sports Complex. Tickets will be available in advance through the American Royal website.

Events

The main event, of course, is the barbecue competition – some 550 different teams compete to grill the best ribs, burnt ends, and pulled pork. In the middle of all that roast (good stuff takes time), check out some of the other activities:

  • 9th Annual Global Youth BBQ Series – Meet the world’s next best BBQ chef in this competition for kids (ages 6-10 and 11-15). The little ones prepare hamburgers and the older children prepare steaks.
  • Fast Eddy’s Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament: Register Now To

Sampling

The best part of American Royal is, of course, trying some delicious barbecue. Years ago, you could walk up to a team, ask for a sample, and try, but due to Department of Health Rules, only teams that have licensed food vendors can sell BBQ. Visit the food court to feast on some of the best barbecues in the area.
