A study published in the British Journal of Nutrition suggests that consuming walnuts can help improve critical thinking and especially deductive reasoning , the ability to discern the correct answers from the incorrect ones. If so, the consumption of these nuts at exam times, for example, could improve the performance of students.
This study has been carried out by Dr. Peter Pribis, associated with Andrews University, in the USA, using students from the university itself as a sample. While a group of university students ate two slices of banana bread with half a cup of chopped walnuts daily, the second group consumed the same bread without the nuts in question. The results showed that "the students who consumed nuts experienced an improvement in critical thinking, specifically in deductive thinking," explains Pribis.
A short but intense nutritional supplement based on nuts has been shown to be influential in the cognitive improvement of young adults. For the researcher, "l nuts, obviously as not make you a critical thinker, which is achieved after years of study. However, students and young professionals in fields that involve a lot of critical thinking and decision decision makers could benefit from regular nut consumption. "
As recognized by the university itself, said study has been funded by the California Nut Commission, although they argue that said organization has not interfered in the design or results of the study.
