In some things it seems that the preferential use of the left can be an advantage: let's think about the tennis players. But in other areas the high percentage of famous left-handers – in relation to what they occupy in the population – draws attention. Hence theories have arisen to explain its brilliance.
The most classic is based on the hypothesis that they use the right hemisphere of the brain more. According to this idea, this area would be more concerned with thought, reflection and the management of emotions. Therefore, the people who use it the most would be more creative and cool. But the theory doesn't hold up. Intelligence is not a unique factor: you can be very emotional and not develop analytics or spatial.
And it is not located in specific areas of the brain: research shows that using one area more than another does not correlate with genius. What's more, Harvard psychologist Joshua Goodman has found that there are fewer college left-handers than there should be based on their proportion of the population.
