'Assassin's Creed', there was a completely different version for PS2 and Xbox

We all know the Altair who was introduced to us in ‘Assassin’s Creed ‘. His story, Desmond’s, later Ezio’s and everything that moves with the cursed Animus and the corporations involved in its use. But the story could be very different.

This is how Jonathan Jacques-Belletete tells it, who is currently working at Eidos Montreal and who at the time was going to be the art director of a version for PS2 and Xbox . A totally different game and that has little or nothing to do with the one we know, according to his words, of course.

“It had a completely different story, totally different environments and other types of enemies … everything was totally different and the truth is that it was very very cool.”

It seems that the game was being developed at Ubisoft Montreal by a fairly small team of people and at the same time as the title that we all know. It is not known if they got very far in the development or the reasons for the cancellation but of course it is always interesting to know these types of stories afterwards.

Can you imagine the number of titles that are left by the wayside and the number of great ideas that are undone before they crystallize in the form of a commercial video game?
