Portimao.- The victory for Pecco Bagnaia comes with the fight for the championship already closed for a Fabio Quartararo who after conquering the crown a fortnight ago, in the previous race, added his first fall of the season. A triumph that, however, was celebrated in style in the garage of the Borgo Panigale factory, which was awarded the constructors’ title.
“I am really very happy, we have done a great job this weekend in the team, I think it is the best weekend of the season, we have been fast in all the sessions, but in the race even more, I have enjoyed it al maximum. I was afraid with the red flag that someone had suffered a serious accident, I would have liked to get to the checkered flag, but the important thing is that everyone seems to be fine. Now we are [constructor] champions, and that is a very important point. We are going to continue working until the end of the season”, summed up the Italian as soon as he finished the race.
“This weekend we started with the Misanosetting in one of the bikes and with the one from the last race held here in April in the other”, explained Pecco , the race winner.
“I did a session with each of the bikes and decided to go ahead with the setup we use here, doing a bit of a mix with the improvements we have had since then, which has allowed us to take a big step forward compared to six months ago” , when he finished second in the race, 4.8 seconds behind the winner, Quartararo.
In this way, at Ducati they have been able to verify the clear improvement from then until now on the bike. A work that adds to the evolution that is being prepared for 2022.
“We have found a way to be really strong. After two really difficult seasons like mine in MotoGP, it was not an easy thing to achieve, but we have achieved it. And this is something that gives me a very important plus load, and above all it helps me to face next season with great confidence”, in which the Italian hopes to be able to storm a championship that Ducati has not won since 2007 with Casey Stoner .
Bagnaia wanted Ducati to participate in its successes, to which it has handed over the constructors’ crown.
“We have done an incredible job, because we have adapted the bike a lot to my needs. This year Ducati has opened its mind a bit and we have worked on my strengths. Sure I have adapted a lot to the braking of this bike compared to what I used to do in Moto2, but now I manage to be very incisive. The entry and cornering come from my riding style, so we have found a mix between both parts. Now we have to continue like this, because I think we have a very good base for next year”, settled the player from Torino .
