The two Italian drivers were very forceful after Sunday’s race at Mugello . The official confirmation of the death of the young Swiss rider, as a result of the accident suffered on Saturday, came just at the end of the Moto3 test.
The Moto2 riders did not have time to find out about the tragic outcome because they were ready to start the intermediate category race. In the case of the MotoGP riders, however, they did think about what had happened for a long time, before participating in the collective minute of silence, scheduled for ten minutes before the start of the premier class event.
In that state of mind, getting on a motorcycle and going 350 kilometers per hour is not the most appropriate, and this is what the Ducati and KTM riders denounced, respectively.
“If yesterday it was difficult to concentrate, today it was impossible. This is one of the worst days of my life. I asked not to come, because it was not correct. If it had been a MotoGP rider who had died, it would not have been raced”, recognized Bagnaia , who went to the ground at the first change (lap 2), while driving at the front of the peloton.
“I don’t like that someone decided to run after news like this. We have lost a 19-year-old rider, that is something very difficult to accept, as it is that they let us race”, added the Turin rider, aware that this type of tragedies do not affect everyone equally, and That is probably why there were differences between the members of the grid.
“In situations like this, it depends on the people. There are those who, by nature, affect them less than others. In my case, I am very sensitive, maybe too much. I went out for a run without being calm or focused at all. I think I am one of the few riders who would have preferred not to do it. I would say that what happened has been taken too lightly”, underlined #63, fully supported by Petrucci .
“I don’t know if we would have raced if we had passed a MotoGP rider. I feel quite dirty having competed thinking of his family and friends”, said the Tech3 team rider, who crossed the finish line ninth, his second top ten in a row.
The feeling of outrage at #9 arose on Saturday, immediately after the crash that would end Dupasquier ‘s life.
“Everyone knew the seriousness of the situation yesterday [on Saturday], when a helicopter went down to the runway and stayed there for so long, almost without hurrying [insinuating that there was nothing to do]. Then the helicopter rose, in three minutes they opened the pit lane and we passed by where a boy had just died”, Petrucci deepened, very disappointed: “At least they could have met us and asked, exchanged opinions”, he valued.
