The Ducati rider has a sixth place in the race as his worst result this season, but he is still without victory in MotoGP. This weekend the Borgo Panigale race at ‘home’ and, in addition, they come from two consecutive wins of their teammate Jack Miller in Jerez and Le Mans.
Mugello is presented as the ideal setting for the Turin team to debut its record in the premier class, a circuit on paper favorable to Ducati, where they have won in 2017 ( Andrea Dovizioso ), 2018 ( Jorge Lorenzo ) and 2019 ( Danilo Petrucci ). ).
“It would be wonderful to win here for the first time, but that’s not my goal. It’s more important to be competitive and stay consistent from the start of the weekend. If it’s possible to win, I’ll go for it. I’m just thinking about being competitive. In Le Mans was lucky for the rain, because it had difficulties at the beginning. We must see how to be competitive like in Portimao or Jerez. It is a circuit that I like. The Ducati works very well. We can have a great opportunity”, affirms Bagnaia .
Mugello Circuit held the MotoGP top speed record at the start of the season, with the 356.7 km/h reached by Dovizioso during FP2 of the 2019 Italian Grand Prix. After Johann Zarco set a new record in Qatar at the start of the championship with 362.4 km/h, it is expected that this weekend the bar will be raised a little more.
This has put the safety of the Circuit in the spotlight due to the proximity of the walls, especially in the first braking, where the pilots reduce from more than 350 km/h to 90 in just 300 meters.
“Getting here at 360 is different from Qatar, because San Donato is crazy. Maybe the top speed record will be broken. Johann more, because it has more perfect aerodynamics. The safety of the track does not change much. Let’s wait to see the speed .They are doing a great job in the Safety Commission asking us what they can do. We are improving the safety of the circuits. They will do something in the future”, closes Bagnaia.
