The calendar advances and the ups and downs of some continue. At Le Mans, two weeks ago, Bagnaia crashed when fighting Enea Bastianini for the lead in the race. In Italy it was the Beast, the great surprise of this championship, who was unable to cross the finish line due to a roll (lap 14) while trying to hunt down the front group, led by Pecco.
Unlike what happened in France, the Turinese did not lose focus against his countrymen for his luck and that of Ducati, who won again at home after Quartararo’s affront in 2021.
The current world champion defended himself wonderfully in a scenario that was not conducive on paper for his Yamaha, especially among the swarm of Ducati that surrounded him. Chapeau for the Devil, who strengthened his status as leader and increased his advantage at the head of the general table.
If the boy from Nice saved the furniture in an extraordinary way, almost more relevant than that was the ‘carrerón’ of the eldest of the Espargaró brothers, capable of keeping three Desmosedici at bay based on skill and courage. This is the fourth consecutive podium for the Aprilia captain, something that only two members of the current MotoGP grid have achieved: Marc Márquez and Andrea Dovizioso.
Johann Zarco went from less to more and crossed the finish line in fourth, even though the Frenchman could not fight to get on the box in any case – he crossed the finish line 2.5 seconds behind the winner – while fifth place went to Marco Bezzecchi, very fiery during the first third of the race and who, little by little, was losing energy.
Luca Marini, his neighbor in the VR46 team workshop, finished sixth, ahead of Brad Binder, the first of the KTM riders, and Takaaki Nakagami, the first of the Honda riders.
Miguel Oliveira finished ninth, while Márquez said goodbye to this course with a top ten, before leaving to operate in the United States next week.
The weekend was a total ruin for Suzuki, who saw Joan Mir and Alex Rins go down on the same lap, lap seven, while they were bottled up in the pack. Jorge Martín, for his part, was 13th, immediately ahead of Alex Márquez (14th).
