Bastianini: "I'm going to continue at Ducati, but I still don't know which team"

The Italian rider is the only one who has managed to win three races this year, but he has combined them with a series of crashes and poor results that make his career this year completely irregular, a handicap that prevents him from being even higher in the general of the championship, of which he is third, 28 points behind the leader, Fabio Quartararo.

For Enea Bastianini, Barcelona can be a propitious scenario to continue adding and stay in the leading positions.

“Montmeló is a good circuit for me, it’s fast and also very technical, I crashed at Mugello, I didn’t come from the best race, but I’m motivated to start this Friday in the best mood. Last year I suffered with the grip of the track and I had to adapt my driving style, I hope things go better this year”, introduced the Gresini rider at the press conference prior to the grand prix.

Bastianini has won three races, but when he doesn’t win he is unable to qualify for the podium or front results, 8th place in Jerez was his best result out of the three victories achieved.

“I have to be more consistent and regular, I do good races combined with others that are not, like Portimao or Mugello, where I crashed, I have to keep my concentration during all the laps,” he acknowledges to correct himself.

The boy from Gresini is aware that in recent races he has lost some confidence.

“In Le Mans and Mugello I lost a bit of sensation at the entrance of the curves with the front end, we already understand why, it is difficult for me to stop the bike and we have to work on the adjustment to solve it”, he located the problem.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Bastianini wants to wait to get on the bike and see the grip of the track before making any calculations.

“I don’t know what the strategy is for Montmeló right now, it won’t be easy to keep up with the drivers ahead in the race, Barcelona is different from Mugello, there are a lot of chicanes, like there, but there isn’t much grip and that could be critical for me. With the GP21 it will be easier to ride than last year and the bike helps me a lot in qualifying on Saturday, a vital point, getting ahead on the grid, thinking about the race”.

Bastianini was one of the invited drivers at the official press conference for the Catalan Grand Prix, along with Pecco Bagnaia, Aleix Espargaró and Fabio Quartararo, all of whom have already been renewed for 2023.

“At the moment I haven’t signed the contract with Ducati but I know what my future is going to be like, I’m going to stay with them although we still don’t know which team,” he said.

“We are going to continue working, for me the most important thing is to have a good technical package to be able to fight for the title. My future is not a problem, I have a very good bike and I have to be fast either in the factory set as in a satellite”, settled the one from Rimini.
