These spectacular numbers in his second year in the premier class led Ducati to offer the 24-year-old rider the complete aerodynamic kit (fairing and wings) of the GP22 prototype, the one worn by the official team riders, the Pramacs of Jorge Martín and Johann Zarco and VR46 pilot Luca Marini, all wearing the latest model from the corse cast of Borgo Panigale .
Enea Bastianini assembled the piece in the Jerez test, held less than two weeks ago, after the Spanish Grand Prix, but after testing it conscientiously, for the time being, she has rejected it.
By regulation, MotoGP riders can only do one homologation per season, in addition to the fairing with which the season begins. Thus, if Bastianini mounts this first kit, he will no longer be able to introduce any aerodynamic improvements for the rest of the season.
“At the moment Enea has decided not to ride it and will wait for the next test, in Barcelona (June 6) to test it again,” a member of the Gresini team explained to Motorsport.com .
Aesthetically, the 2022 aero kit is somewhat more streamlined than the 2021 kit, which, on paper, makes the Ducati more agile. However, ‘the beast’ declined to approve it. “At the moment he is more comfortable with last year’s,” they point out in Gresini.
However, the rider knows that Ducati, in the Barcelona test, will bring all the riders who have the Desmosedici GP22 an aerodynamic ‘upgrade’, and at Gresini they point out that Bastianini will surely wait for this new version of the fairing with the hope that Ducati will make an extra piece that ends up in his garage and be able to compare it with the 2021 one that he continues to assemble, with the first version of 2022 and with the final one that, according to Ducati, will be ready for the June test.
