Bautista disarms Copil and puts Spain in the Davis finals

Roberto Bautista finished off the job and gave the victory point for Spain (3-1) in the series against Romania to access the Davis Cup Finals 2022, after the tie was extended after the locals fell in the doubles. The one from Castellón took the duel between the numbers one with a solid victory against Marius Copil in two sets, with 6-2 and 6-3 in about an hour and a half of the game.

Romania managed to force the fourth set in the usual destabilizing doubles match, so with the series 2-1, Sergi Bruguera’s men sought to take advantage of their second match point to be in the final phase of the 2022 Davis Cup, with the pulse between the number one in Spain and Romania, that is, Roberto Bautista and Marius Copil.

The one from Castellón had to lift a break ball in the initial game, but kept his composure to take the initiative in the match, cheered on by a crowd that was happy to attend a fourth match, after the first day had passed in an open and close your eyes The match began quite evenly, until in the sixth game Bautista squeezed the rest. A passing from Castellón allowed him to enjoy the first opportunity to break, but Copil came out unscathed with a great volley, with his wrist still warm after his doubles match. Then, a double fault gave Bautista a new opportunity to open the distance, an opportunity that this time would not go away after a mistake by the Romanian.

With his homework done, Bautista continued to squeeze the rest until he turned around a 40-15 lead in the game in which Copil tried to hold on to the set. The Spaniard took advantage of several mistakes by the Romanian, hit a great point beating his tall rival in the net and ended up making a double break to win the first set, 6-2, after 44 minutes of play.

As in the previous quarter, Bautista started it with his service and with a blank game he made it 1-0 on the scoreboard. In the Romanian’s second serve, he made a break that paved the way for the Davis Cup finals after beating the Romanian at the net with a great passing shot. An advantage that was in charge of confirming later with a solid service.

With his homework done, Bautista made sure of his service, with a new blank game he made it 5-2. Copil then served to stay alive in the game, in a game to the open grave. The Romanian raised up to four match points to keep the Romanian team hopeful and with two consecutive drop shots he managed to make it 5-3. With a blank game, Bautista put the finishing touch to the match (6-2 and 6-3) and closed the tie, earning Spain a place in the final phase of the 2022 Davis Cup.
