Davidovich and Martínez stumble in Davis and Romania is still alive in the tie

Romania forced the fourth game in the tie against Spain in the Davis Cup . The Spanish couple formed by Alejandro Davidovich and Pedro Martínez fell to the Romanian veterans, Marius Copil and Horia Tecau , in two sets (7-6 and 6-4), despite starting with an advantage in both. Sergi Bruguera ‘s men will try to close the tie in the fourth match, with the pulse between the two number ones, Roberto Bautista and Marius Copil .

The second day of the tie between Spain and Romania began with the doubles match, a duel to life or death for the Romanian team, who chose to use their veterans, Marius Copil and Horia Tecau as the last bullet. Opposite, the host couple formed by Pedro Martínez and Alejandro Davidovich, debutants in this Davis Cup and who sought to seal the direct ticket to the final phase, after the 2-0 with which the first day concluded in the singles.

The game started in the best possible way for Spain , with a very connected Alejandro Davidovich, in a special match when playing at home. The man from Malaga converted the second break ball to take the score 1-0 and then, on serve, Pedro Martínez confirmed the advantage. Both showed good rapport at the net, winning points both at the net and from the back of the aisle.

But the Romanian duo patiently waited for their moment, which would come in the sixth game, with the Valencian on serve. Copil took a cross from the bottom of the track, achieving a point that became the first chance of breaking. The number one of the Romanian team finished off the job by crossing the net to bring the tables to the scoreboard. Although in the eighth game, Spain came to enjoy a break ball, but escaped and Romania took the lead for the first time in the match.

From there, both couples raised the level with their services, until taking the set to the decisive tiebreak. Romania started in tow with a double fault from Marius Copil, but two consecutive errors by Pedro Martínez turned the tables for the Spaniards, a moment that the number one celebrated after the chair umpire agreed with a long ball from the Valencian . The stands of the central court of the Puente Romano Tennis Club applauded the Armada, trying to support the team. A double fault by Davidovich aborted any chance of a comeback and the Romanians won the first set, (7-6 (2)), after 48 minutes of play.

Looking for the comeback

Far from giving up, Alejandro Davidovich and Pedro Martínez came out plugged into the second set, breaking the service of Horia Tecau, the doubles specialist who became world number two. As in the first quarter, it was he who lost the service, despite the fact that he had also been the one who had given two blank games for his men on serve. And the same script was repeated as before, in the seventh game, Romania pressed the rest with an initial 0-30 and ended up making the counterbreak after a long ball from the Valencian.

With a blank game, the pair of veterans put the tables on the scoreboard and ended up turning the score around after the initial 4-1, with a new break on Davidovich’s service and closing the match with Tecau’s service, after little more than an hour and a half of the game to leave Romania alive in the tie. Next, Spain will try to win the decisive point in the fourth match, the third individual.
