Berlinale awards the Golden Bear

At the Berlinale, the awards will be presented earlier than usual this time. The last entry starts with a film from South Korea – this time it should be particularly exciting in the evening.

Berlin – The awards will be presented at the Berlin Film Festival on Wednesday (7 p.m.).

This time, 18 films are in the running for the Golden Bear, including two German directors. Director M. Night Shyamalan – known for thrillers like “The Sixth Sense” – heads the international jury that decides on the winners.

The Golden Bear is awarded for the best film. For example, there are Silver Bears for best director and best acting. Alongside Cannes and Venice, the Berlinale is one of the world’s major film festivals.

The last competition entry will be presented on Wednesday morning – “The Novelist’s Film” by South Korean director Hong Sangsoo. In the black-and-white film, the filmmaker is to tell the story of a famous novelist’s reunion with two acquaintances.

The films of a German director and a German director are also shown in the competition. Andreas Dresen has taken on the story of the former Guantánamo prisoner Murat Kurnaz – and tells the film “Rabiye Kurnaz against George W. Bush” about his mother. With “AEIOU – The Fast Alphabet of Love” Nicolette Krebitz tells an unusual love story with actress Sophie Rois.

Despite the pandemic, the Berlinale will again take place with an audience. The cinema halls, for example, are only half occupied. Only people who have been vaccinated against the corona virus or have recovered from an infection have access. Anyone who has not yet had a booster vaccination also needs a test. In addition, the time in which film crews present their projects to journalists has been shortened. After the award ceremony, the Berlinale will continue with public days until Sunday. dpa
