The prestigious Game Awards 2018 were presented on December 7, and the expected announcement of the best game of the year was made to wait for almost 4 hours, in which, in addition to the best rated of the year, we learned the news of some expected releases, and details about the titles that will delight us during 2019 , all between musical performances and humor by the drivers.
Finally, the designation of the best video game of the year went to God of War, despite the fact that it was Red Dead Redemption 2 that held the highest number of awards, 4 in total (best narrative, best music, best audio design and best performance) compared to the 3 with which God Of War was made (in addition to best game, best direction of play and best action and adventure game). A decision that will have liked many and displeased others, who would have preferred that it was Rockstar’s star game that rose as the favorite given the impressive richness of its details, which would have made it worthy of the award.
The Game Awards categories tend to occupy a wide range: best family game, VR game game, best fighting game, best sports game, best mobile game… In total, more than 100 games were nominated. And while other great releases that have made us enjoy this year are left out, the winners define the best of the gaming market quite well this year. The ceremony did not lack emotion, in addition to the large amount of new information that was revealed , by some of the categories, which were very close: an example is the recognition of the best strategy game, which finally went to Into the breach even though Frostpunk was the main bet.
And like every sector, the video game world also has its idols. Hence the awards for the best content creator of the year, which went to Youtuber Nija ; and the Industry Icon Award from Greg Thomas. Also the best eSports athletes were recognized, an industry that is constantly growing.
2018, although it has not been a particularly prolific year in triple-A titles, it has been in creativity especially on the part of indie releases. We review the list of the best video games of the year according to the Game Awards 2018.
