Bluegrass Boardwalk

Special note:

Formerly known as Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, it closed prior to the 2010 season. The family that operates Holiday World signed a lease to operate it and planned to reopen it under the new name, Bluegrass Boardwalk, in May 2013. Negotiations, however, are ongoing. they discontinued and Bluegrass Boardwalk announced on June 15, 2012 that it would withdraw from the project. A different team of developers now plan to reopen the park in May 2014 as the Kentucky Kingdom.

The following information is about the plans now abandoned for Bluegrass Boardwalk. It is provided for information only.

Overview

At the time this is being written, not much is known about the plans for the revised park. Six Flags removed some of the roller coasters and other attractions when the park closed, but several major attractions remain and will presumably be part of the mix when the Bluegrass Boardwalk opens.

Among the standing roller coasters are the forests that were known as Thunder Run and Twisted Twins (a double track roller coaster), and the Greezed Lightnin ‘, Roller Skater (a junior roller coaster) and T2 (a suspended roller coaster). None of the roller coasters were particularly well regarded, and new operators, lovingly maintaining three of the best roller coasters on the planet at Holiday World, are likely to build a new world-class thrill machine (or two, we can dream ) and / or make major makeovers to existing attractions.

Kentucky Kingdom also had a water park known as Splashwater Kingdom. It featured a water coaster and funnel. Bluegrass Boardwalk should include most of the existing rides at the water park and may include some new ones as well.

What is known about the new park is that, like Holiday World, it will offer free soft drinks, free sunscreen, and free inner tubes. It is also very likely to feature the same kind of friendly customer service, clean grounds, and careful attention to detail that are hallmarks of its sister park in Indiana. The new operators plan to invest up to $ 20 million before reopening the park.
