Pol Espargaró had already complained about it last year, who suffered it this very Sunday, to the point that he retired due to physical problems due to a crack in his ribs and finished the race in the box with his right foot soaking, cause of burns.
He was joined this Sunday by Stefan Bradl, test rider at Honda and substitute for Marc Márquez at the Repsol Honda team, who described the heat problems of the bike as “unacceptable”.
Bradl was the only rider of the golden wing brand to finish the race, after Takaaki Nakagami crashed and Pol and Alex Márquez retired, the latter due to technical problems.
However, the German crossed the finish line last (16th), failing to score, something unusual for the Japanese brand in the last 40 years.
Until today, Honda had scored points in the premier class for 633 consecutive races, from 1982, at the Spanish Grand Prix at Jarama, until 2022, at the Montmeló race last Sunday. Four decades.
“A very, very sad day,” conceded Bradl, aware of the 0 added by the brand.
“I had a lot of problems with riding the bike in these hot conditions, because after following those in front of me for the first couple of corners I couldn’t brake because my right hand got too hot and I couldn’t control the bike anymore. ”, due to the heat that the motorcycle gave off.
“After a couple of laps I had to give up the fight to get fresh air for my bike and for my body,” he revealed.
“Then I just tried to finish the race, and I don’t know how I finished the race because physically I was beyond the limit.
Bradl stressed that he had been burned by the heat given off by the RC213V.
“I burned my right leg, and also my foot, because very hot air came out. I imagine it was the heat from the engine, and something like that is not acceptable in the way it is transferred to the body,” he denounced.
“So, a very sad day for me, for us in general. But it has been a situation that is really not acceptable.”
Pol Espargaró joined in on the extremely hot air released by the Honda, a problem he has had in the past. However, he withdrew due to pain and breathing problems due to cracks in his ribs, the result of a crash in FP1.
“I gave myself an injection before the race to try to mitigate the pain, but in this heat it didn’t have any effect. It swelled up more and I couldn’t breathe. I felt a little dizzy, as well as the heat in my foot, which is a problem that we currently have at Honda since I arrived, it was quite painful”, he argued.
“I’ve decided to retire, I couldn’t continue, it was too extreme,” admitted the boy from Granollers.
