Keeping your mind busy with a task drives away negative emotions , according to a study by researcher Christopher K. Hsee of the University of Chicago (USA) and his colleagues, published in the journal Psychological Science . However, as the team of scientists has shown in a series of experiments with students, we naturally tend to do the opposite: remain idle and unoccupied.
From his observations, Hsee concludes that if there is no clear reason to do something we prefer to sit and stay still so as not to waste energy , a clear inheritance from our ancestors. However, this is counterproductive, since today human beings have an excess of energy that we must "consume".
"When you wake up every day do something. Anything. Even if it seems pointless, you will feel better doing it," recommends Hsee, who assures that the key to achieving happiness is to always stay active, either physically or mentally .
