Summer is a time when we move more frequently by car and we need to be comfortable so that the heat cannot beat us . Travel by car will multiply during the summer season and also the use of more suitable footwear for the summer.
But can we drive in flip flops? The answer today is not easy since, although it is not classified as an offense, the use of this type of footwear can lead to a fine for drivers.
It is not specifically forbidden to drive with flip flops, but you can be penalized for not being able to maintain freedom of movement to control the pedals well.

According to the law, »The driver of the vehicle is obliged to maintain his own freedom of movement, the necessary field of vision and constant attention when driving; as well as taking care of the proper position and that is maintained by the rest of the passengers, and the proper placement of the objects or animals transported ”as stipulated in Article 18.1.
Driving with flip flops could therefore limit the driver’s ability to move, which could lead to a fine if the police take it into account. These penalties could be up to 200 euros.
Other summer penalties
During this time of summer, a series of sanctions proliferate that during the rest of the year are more complicated to see. For example, driving without a shirt could be penalized with up to 100 euros and without the loss of license points: ” Not wearing a shirt could cause injuries if the seat belt is activated” stipulates the General Traffic Regulations.
As for driving with a cap, caps or hats, the law establishes that, as long as they do not restrict the freedom of movement of the driver and that the ears and eyes are uncovered at all times, it would not be punishable.
Driving distractions
Another of the warnings that the DGT makes this year is the need to be aware of the road at all times. Items such as mobile phones, GPS or headphones, used manually and not remotely can constitute a serious offense with penalties of up to 200 euros and the loss of 3 points of the card.
REMEMBER:
It is a SERIOUS INFRACTION to drive manually using mobile phone devices, navigators, headphones … that reduce the mandatory permanent attention to driving (Road Safety Law).
Penalty € 200.
Loss 3 points.
