A flood helper auctioned – symbolically – his cap to support victims of the flood disaster with the proceeds. In the end, tens of thousands of euros come together.
Cologne – The online auction of an old baseball cap from Ahr flood helper Markus Wipperfürth ended on Monday evening with 80,350 euros.
41 bidders had previously bid 90 times within three days, according to the eBay bid overview. Wipperfürth had previously assured that all of the money would benefit the flood victims. The farmer from near Cologne has been working as a helper in the Ahrweiler region in Rhineland-Palatinate, which has been particularly hard hit by the flood for weeks. Who paid so much money for a worn cap remained open: the buyer did not appear by name.
The auction produced surprisingly high bids for the provider too. By Thursday afternoon, more than 133,000 euros had already been offered on the Internet platform. Then the page suddenly disappeared from the network. According to Ebay, the auction was automatically stopped and only available again on Friday evening. On Sunday afternoon, the last bid was 124,299 euros.
The valid auction price is now lower at the end. Ebay offers the option of withdrawing bids with the seller’s consent. Ebay announced that there were 15 withdrawals in the bidding process.
In his videos from the flood area, the entrepreneur had also criticized the role of the authorities and urged them to withdraw. That had brought him encouragement from the “lateral thinker” scene in the social networks, from which he distanced himself: “I have absolutely nothing to do with” lateral thinkers “.” Dpa
