Bochum (dpa) – A 29-year-old driver crashed his car into a gas pump at a gas station on Autobahn 40 near Bochum.
The 29-year-old was slightly injured in the accident early Sunday morning and his three passengers were seriously injured, the police said. According to the fire brigade, a seriously injured person had to be freed from the car. All four were taken to the hospital.
After initial investigations by the police, the 29-year-old was heading towards Essen when he lost control of his car in front of the Wattenscheid junction. He left the lane to the right, drove over a strip of grass, and landed on the petrol station grounds. There the car hit the gas pump and a pillar. The police also announced that the 29-year-old may have been drunk. A blood sample was drawn from him.
According to the fire brigade, 49 emergency services were on site. Since the pump was also damaged, they cordoned off the area and prepared a “foam extinguishing attack” as a precaution. The amount of property damage was initially not known. dpa
