Madrid. – This Thursday, May 12, 2022, Carlos Sainz was the main protagonist of the 2022 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix presentation event, in which he explained his expectations and was motivated for his first home race with real possibilities of victory.
Since the season started, it has become clear that Ferrari has one of the two most performing single-seaters on the entire grid, along with Red Bull. Despite this, the victory continues to resist after the first five rounds of the campaign, in which Charles Leclerc, a teammate from Madrid, has managed to win twice.
“It’s an intense week, also a very fun week. It’s a real opportunity to make a podium or win a race at home, it’s a unique feeling that I’m really looking forward to.”
“I think the fact that the tickets have been sold and that there will be a full house shows the good direction in which Formula 1 is going, the support that we have in Spain and I think it will be very entertaining and fun.”
“It would be my first [victory] and for that reason it would be very special and, second, it would be at home. This is what I work for every day, trying to make it happen as soon as possible and the one who wants to win the most is me.”
Sainz wants to turn around the moments of bad luck that he has had at the start of the 2022 season on a circuit that he knows like the back of his hand, and from which, like everyone else, he has his favorite areas.
“As a favorite part, I would say the stadium, because it is where you feel the warmth of the fans the most. But as a fun corner, turn nine, in F1 you take it hard, we entered at around 270 km/h and we came out at around 290 km/h , for us it is a corner that we love. The three also, in general the fast corners with an F1 give very good sensations”.
“That they support me as much as they can, that every little bit they do is noticeable from the car,” Sainz asked the fans to fill the stands. “I’ve always noticed it, at home I’ve always done my best races, scoring points when I didn’t have a car to score points, and this year we have a car for a podium, we’re going to try to win and go for it”.
The man from Madrid also recalled the times he went to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as a fan, to support Fernando Alonso, his childhood idol.
“I remember going to the grand prix in 2005 or 2006 and seeing the stands at full capacity when Alonso played the world championship and won races, well I think that in 2010 and 2013 it was also full again, but since then we have not returned. to see 100% and I think this year is going to be the first time in many years and it’s going to be incredible”.
