Takaaki Nakagami is one of the Honda riders who is suffering from the inclemency of the RC213V. At 30 years old and in his fifth season in MotoGP , the Japanese is still chasing his first podium in the heavy bike category, where he has always been linked to the brand with the golden wing.
Taka is one of those runners who offers flashes of his speed, but in the moments that count least, and later, on Sunday afternoons, he loses consistency or messes it up, as happened this Sunday in Montmeló.
After carrying out a stratospheric start, the boy from the LCR made a miscalculation when braking and lost the front end of his motorcycle, causing a melé that could very well have ended in tragedy.
His head landed on the back of Pecco Bagnaia’s Ducati, which gave him a brutal shake and tore off the visor of his helmet. With inertia, Nakagami took Alex Rins ahead, who ended up lying on the ground for the second consecutive race and again, as had happened the previous week, at Mugello, after an incident with the Japanese.
After passing both through the hospital, Suzuki’s was diagnosed with a fracture in his left wrist, while Chiba’s had to remain under observation for 24 hours, but without any apparently serious injury.
At the end of the test at the Circuit, Lucio Cecchinello acknowledged that Nakagami is going through a delicate moment and that he is under a lot of pressure, given that his future is uncertain, but less and less. “It was a miscalculation on his part. Taka is experiencing a very high pressure situation because he is not sure where he will race next year. He is nervous and in certain situations, he loses focus. I know very badly what has happened and that Rins was hurt, “said Cecchinello.
“You can’t think of overtaking twelve drivers at the start, in one single stop. If me and Rins hadn’t been there, I still would have ended up in the gravel”, conceded Bagnaia.
Since Marc Márquez decided to go to the United States for surgery to solve his problems with his right shoulder, Honda has chosen to focus all development of the RC213V on Nakagami, a circumstance that obviously leads us to assume that Pol Espargaró will not continue in 2023 in a sheath in the team suit sponsored by Repsol. What happens is that this does not mean that the Japanese will continue on the grid next year, and the voices that suggest that his bike will go to Ai Ogura , rider of the Idemitsu Moto2 team, are becoming louder. Logic suggests that Nakagami has plenty of numbers to join Stefan Bradl in the role of HRC test driver.
