Blazer, amber necklace and diamond: Ursula Wanecki doesn’t need more to be mistaken for Chancellor. With the end of the Merkel era, the Merkel double her “great life adventure” also comes to an end.
Attendorn – At the end of the Merkel era, chancellor double Ursula Wanecki found it difficult to get rid of the “diamond” from her repertoire of gestures.
She now makes the hand gesture that has become so typical for Chancellor Merkel almost automatically in many conversations. “I have to get used to it at some point,” said the 65-year-old from the German press agency. After all, it is now to be expected that, as a popular double, there will be more calm for her: “That was a very good time, really a beautiful life adventure. But I am happy that it is slowly coming to an end. That I can relax more, ”she said. The office worker from Attendorn in the Sauerland bears a great resemblance to the outgoing Chancellor and has appeared again and again as a doppelganger in commercials, sketches and other videos for many years. That was always “stressful”.
She appreciates her Berlin doppelganger as a “great democrat”. “I admire Mrs. Merkel that she can assert herself in the male world,” said Wanecki. But she never wanted to emulate her too much: “I didn’t really want to copy anything from Ms. Merkel. I just wanted to stay Ursula Wanecki, keep my personality, ”she said. Doubles that wanted to be like their original often looked ridiculous, she thinks. After ten years of regular appearances as a Merkel double, the diamond “slips” into her hands again and again.
In fact, it doesn’t take much to mistake Wanecki for Angela Merkel at first glance. All she has to do is slip into one of her many colorful pantsuits and put on subtle make-up. She had the hairstyle before Merkel’s rise to the rank of Chancellor. She also never trained the similarity in gait, posture and gestures, said Wanecki.
“My career started very slowly,” she reported. She was approached early on about her visual similarity to the Chancellor. Finally, she had the idea to dress up as Merkel in her orange blazer for Carnival. “That was really well received,” recalled Wanecki. She was then persuaded to send a photo to a double agency. She experienced her breakthrough after several appearances on television in 2013 – the real Merkel was then on an election campaign tour for her third legislative term. Since then, she has accepted well over 100 jobs: from visiting a wedding to shooting for ZDF or Pro7. dpa
