Chris Rock wanted “Spiral” to have the original Jigsaw traps

Chris Rock is the protagonist of Spiral: Saw, the reboot of the horror saga that had up to 9 films since the original 2004 film. Saw was an essential film for two main aspects, the first being one of the most profitable productions of history, costing just over a million dollars and grossing over a hundred. The second is that it was the discovery of James Wan internationally, a reason that gave him enough impetus to currently direct blockbusters such as Fast and Furius or Aquaman. This first film in the franchise, apart from being a box office success, was, in turn, a work well valued by critics that highlighted the twist it offered to a genre as hackneyed as horror. The following installments gradually made the brand worse, but Saw: Spiral promises to restore hope with Chris Rock starring in the project.In an interview with Digital Spy, Rock stated that as a fan he would like to have been closer to the original story. “I suggested bringing back a couple of traps,” the actor declared with a smile. “Hey, that inverted bear trap could work again” he mentioned while emphasizing that there is that complexity at the level of traps that increases as the film progresses. Spiral has nods to the original traps, but for its director Darren Lynn Bousman (who has already directed three installments of the franchise) it was more relevant that these were close to the rules of the franchise. For Bousman it is necessary that the tests work as shown on the screen and gave an example: “if we show someone hanging by their tongue (…) The device has to work. It has to be able to support so much body weight ”.Finally and as usual in the comedian Chris Rock, he joked with the participation of Samuel L. Jackson as the father of his character in the film. “I don’t think there’s a better guy who can play my dad, except my real dad, and he’s dead, so that wouldn’t have worked.
