Daniil Kvyat will make his NASCAR Cup debut racing at Indianapolis

Daniil Kvyat, 28, will drive a second Hezeberg team car at the three road course events remaining this season: Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, Aug. 21 at Watkins Glen and Oct. 9 at Charlotte.

The Hezeberg is a joint team between racing legend Toine Hezemans and Dutch entrepreneur Ernst Berg , and has put in place a part-time structure that plans to field the #27 Ford Mustang at several races this season.

Loris Hezeberg will drive the #27 Ford this weekend, while Kvyat will drive the #26 Toyota.

“I am very happy to be making my NASCAR Cup Series debut in Indianapolis. I have always been passionate about NASCAR racing, the most important form of motorsports in the United States,” said Kyvat.

“NASCAR has always intrigued me as it is a pure form of motorsport for me.”

At the start of the 2013 season, Daniil Kvyat made his debut in the GP3 Series , taking three wins and five podiums in total and finally winning the championship in 2013. Kvyat made his Formula 1 debut with Toro Rosso at the start of the 2014 season, with just 19 years. At the 2014 Australian Grand Prix, Kvyat finished ninth in the race, setting the record for the youngest driver to score points in Formula 1, a record previously held by Sebastian Vettel.

He continued in the Red Bull driver program until 2020, ending his Formula 1 career at Alpine as a reserve driver in 2021.

“I am looking forward to success in this branch of motorsports and look forward to competing for wins and championships in the future. I can’t thank NASCAR enough, Josh Reaume, Toine Hezemans, Ernst Berg and everyone at Team Hezeberg for the opportunity. “, said.

“The pit guys have worked tirelessly to prepare myself and the machine for this experience. It will be my first time at Indianapolis, and I’m looking forward to seeing it in person. From what I’ve seen on video, Indianapolis is a challenging track, but I’m looking forward to taking on that challenge, along with competing in the NASCAR Cup Series.”

Team co-owner Josh Reaume said he believes the city is a great destination for Kvyat’s next racing adventure.

“Daniil is a very talented driver with incredible experience. In my opinion, NASCAR is a great place for Daniil, especially with the Next-Gen capabilities in many styles of racing,” Reaume said.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of Daniil’s transition to NASCAR and helping him in any way I can.”

At Watkins Glen, Kvyat will be joined by former Formula 1 champion Kimi Raikkonen, who will drive a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 alongside his Trackhouse Racing teammates Daniel Suarez and Ross Chastain .
