Regensburg – A young woman in Regensburg initially gave no information to the regional court about the violent death of her newborn daughter. The 25-year-old was silent on Monday at the beginning of the trial.
The prosecution accuses her of murder on base motives. The girl’s body was discovered in a dumpster on Christmas Day 2020. An autopsy showed that the baby was viable and did not die of natural causes.
The mother is said to have cut off the air supply to the baby shortly after birth. Then, according to the prosecution, she packed the unconscious or dead child in a garbage bag and put it in the garbage can. The cause of death was the autopsy after a lack of air supply or hypothermia or a combination of both. The mother was arrested in a hospital.
The prosecutor is convinced that the woman – a German citizen – acted out of “blatant selfishness”. You didn’t want to appear as a liar because of the hidden pregnancy. In addition, she had recently found a new, stable living situation and did not want to endanger it. “The baby was a disruptive factor for her that she had to eliminate.”
