Were mistakes made at the Klinikum Oldenburg? The public prosecutor's office is investigating clinic staff on suspicion of negligent homicide.
Oldenburg – After the death of a premature baby due to contaminated milk powder food in Lower Saxony, the public prosecutor's office is investigating clinic staff on suspicion of negligent homicide.
A spokesman for the Oldenburg public prosecutor said on Wednesday that it is being investigated whether hygiene regulations have been violated at the Oldenburg Clinic. It must be clarified whether mistakes have been made. At first, he did not give any details about the accused. Previously, the prosecution had investigated for negligent homicide against unknown persons.
According to the clinic, the premature baby died on June 7th in the intensive care unit. Studies have shown that the food the baby was given on June 3rd – one day after its birth – was contaminated with a germ. Another premature baby, who became seriously ill because of the contaminated milk, has recovered. According to the clinic spokeswoman, it is not yet possible to predict whether any consequential damage will remain. The environmental germ Cronobacter was also detected in three other babies, but according to the hospital they showed no signs of disease. dpa
