The Spanish rider managed, at last, to master the art of starting with the Aprilia and quickly climb positions to place fourth in the MotoGP race of the German Grand Prix, held this Sunday. There he met his teammate, Aleix Espargaró, who was riding third, both leading a nice duel in the fight for the podium. In the garage of Noale’s house they rubbed their eyes, seeing their two prototypes, for the first time, fighting for the queen class drawer.
However, 11 laps from the end of the race, scheduled for 30 laps, Maverick Viñales suffered a technical problem that forced him to retire.
“I am happy despite the result. My rear regulator broke. I tried to deactivate it but I couldn’t, and it was dangerous to stay on track”, he explained at the end of the day.
“Even though I’m not at my best with the bike, I’m almost there. When I take that little step, I’ll be with those in front for sure,” he predicted.
Little by little, with some ups and downs, Maverick is taking steps forward and showing the qualities that led him to be one of the top drivers in the championship.
“I feel like every weekend we are closer. Last year, this was one of the most difficult points of the course in my career, and now I am in a completely opposite situation”, in reference to his resignation to continue in Yamaha.
For the Spanish runner, as important as the results, which at the moment are not coming, are the sensations.
“It’s been a long time since I enjoyed driving so much,” he confessed.
For many laps, Maverick was at the wheel of Aleix, his ‘leader of the ranks’, friend and mentor at Aprilia, but he didn’t think of not fighting him for that reason.
“At the moment I had the problem I was breathing a little to try to pass Aleix later. I have learned a lot behind him these laps”.
In such a physical and tough race, Maverick saved one last cartridge for last.
“I knew the last ten laps were going to be the best.”
“In this race it was my revenge. Aprilia and the Piaggio group are giving me everything I need, he said.
Regarding the victory of Fabio Quartararo and the bite to the World Cup of the Frenchman, who fights with Aleix for the crown, he sentenced: “Fabio is in a sweet moment.”
