The General Directorate of Traffic launched new reforms at the beginning of 2021 to make Spanish roads much safer. The DGT reported that as of July 1 of this year, the one known as Luz V-16 would come into operation, which will replace the emergency triangles in a few years.
The idea is that for the next few years, until 2026, both safety tools to report accidents on the roads, coexist together until only the V-16 Light remains.
It is a much more reliable lighting system, faster to use since it will be enough to place it on the roof with your hand out the window and therefore, it will be safer for all drivers. In addition, these lights will have to have geolocation that will be on the market as of December.
Therefore, with this V-16 Light it will no longer be necessary to abandon the vehicle to place the triangles on the road, with the lack of safety that this entailed in many situations.
Homologation
As of today, all drivers who want to take their V-16 Light now should know that not all lights of this type are valid to carry them in the car.
The DGT has provided a special approval for these products that must be visible and will include documentation to ensure this. In addition, this approval may not be modified in any case.
This homologation will always present the same characteristics: alphanumeric code where the first characters belong to the homologation company, which are the laboratories authorized by the DGT, and then the homologation date plus the serial number.

Where to buy it?
For a few months there have already been a wide variety of Luz V-16 models that we can purchase in large shopping centers such as Carrefour, Alcampo, El Corte Inglés, or in virtual stores such as Amazon, or specialized in vehicles.
These models must always carry their approval in order and ready to store in our car for any emergency. The brands that are currently available are: Help Flash, Motorkit, NK SOS Road, iWotto E Light, and Osram LED Guardian Road Flare.
Prices range from 15 euros that Motorkit can cost up to 24 euros.
