With a huge smile that betrayed his happiness, the young rookie of the Gresini team confirmed that “this weekend my future will be known”, pointing to a renewal with his current team, the one that has taken him to the top class, the training founded by the sadly deceased Fausto Gresini, the man who always believed in him.
A confidence that began to be justified at the Italian Grand Prix , where he achieved pole position, the first in MotoGP for him, and opened a phase of the season in which he has made an important leap on Saturdays (second row at Barcelona and Sachsenring) and also in the race, with 11th in Mugello and 8th in Germany, his best result so far.
Diggia is one of the few riders who ride a Ducati in the MotoGP World Championship who does not have a contract with the factory, but directly with the team, a situation that does not keep him up at night.
“My priority is to have the best technical package to work with and build a good season. Then, who I have the contract with is a secondary issue. The most important thing is to have good material”, something that the team will have to negotiate with the factory, although the recent good results seem to have raised Ducati’s interest in supporting the rider.
In the absence of an official renewal announcement, Di Giannantonio will almost certainly change his teammate next year, given that Enea Bastianini will ride next year with the official team or with Pramac.
This opens the door for Gresini to a new pilot and Diggia is clear about what he wants.
“I would like to have a very strong driver next to the box, I would like him to be the fastest on the grid, if I could choose it would be Fabio Quartararo or Pecco Bagnaia, to give you two names. When you have a teammate who is a top driver, It motivates me a lot, it helps you and, above all, you can learn a lot. Right now I don’t know which rider is going to come, but I hope it’s the strongest possible”, settled the Roman.
