According to a study published in the latest issue of the journal Neurology , eating a moderate amount of chocolate a week can improve cardiovascular health and prevent strokes in men ages 49 to 75.
After a study with more than 35,000 men, Susanna C. Larsson and her colleagues at the Karolinska Institute in Estomocolmo (Sweden) concluded that consuming a third of a cup of chocolate chips (around 63 grams) a week , the risk of suffering a stroke was reduced by 17% compared to those who did not consume this food. The positive effect, the researchers say, is due to the flavonoids it contains, which are antioxidants, prevent clot formation and have anti-inflammatory properties, in addition to lowering blood pressure.
The same scientific team investigated 33,372 Swedish women from 1997 to 2007 and showed that chocolate lovers also suffered fewer strokes or strokes.
