In popular culture and also among many doctors, the theory is widespread that viewing excessive pornographic content can lead to problems getting an erection or maintaining it. Now, a new study carried out by the University of California, Los Angeles (USA) and Concordia University (Canada) has shown that not only is watching erotic content unlikely to cause erection problems, but watching movies Sex can even help sexual arousal .
The study, led by experts Nicole Prause and Jim Pfaus, which has been published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine , examined data from previous studies regarding the effect of eroticism on sexual arousal with a total of 280 participants. of which 127 of them had a stable partner.
All the volunteers filled out a questionnaire about their sexual habits (including the International Index of Erectile Function), their sexual desire and the average number of hours per week that they had watched movies with sexual content .
In the same way, once in the laboratory, they also had to observe sexual films (of a woman and a man carrying out consensual vaginal penetration) and report on their level of sexual arousal. The results surprised the researchers.
“When we looked at the data from these previous studies, we found that men who had seen more sex movies at home were more aroused than when they watched sex movies in the lab, ” Prause explains.
According to the experts, this result is important as it shows that watching pornography at home does not desensitize men but even makes them respond more strongly in the subsequent sexual relationship with their partner in light of these conclusions.
