Twentieth in the general classification, Andrea Dovizioso is going through one of his most critical seasons. The Forli rider has not finished polishing the adaptation process to his Yamaha M1, especially in a year where the factory is not going through its best moment in terms of power and speed.
However, the tuning fork brand uses the benefits provided by the grip of certain asphalts to fight for significant points, highlighting the good work of Fabio Quartararo in events such as those in Indonesia, Portugal and Jerez. However, the lack of rear grip remains one of the Japanese manufacturer’s concerns.
“In my opinion, there is no way to improve grip by working only with the set-up,” Andrea Dovizioso introduced. “So you have to do bigger interventions, but you have to decide beforehand.”
The Iwata manufacturer took part in a test day in Jerez last Monday, and although the Italian rider confirmed that Yamaha had some things in mind to enhance grip, the tuning fork factory did not “have important material to test in the test”.
“We didn’t have any material to test [in Jerez],” the satellite team driver admitted after finishing the test.
“When you do this type of testing, in the end we only talk about brushstrokes and not excessively significant changes, because Yamaha was not prepared to present something big in those tests.”
“It is clear that at this moment nobody knows what to do and how, but we have to start.”
For this reason, Andrea Dovizioso assured that the team works according to the guidelines set forth by Fabio Quartararo, current world champion and current leader of the MotoGP qualifying sheet.
“At Yamaha they are focused on making Fabio [Quartararo] happy, since they are fighting for the title. Therefore, they are not putting all their interest in things that Quartararo does not consider to be a priority,” confessed the Forli rider.
Although, as reported by GPOne, Andrea Dovizioso admitted that “he can understand the situation” due to the results of the French driver. At the moment, the Italian is preparing to compete in the seventh round of the year, scheduled for next Sunday at Le Mans.
