The return of the Argentine Grand Prix to the calendar after three years of absence generated a lot of happiness among all motorcycling fans in the South American country.
However, the delay in one of the planes that transported the material of certain teams from Mandalika, where the last World Cup event was held, caused the organizers to postpone the activity on the track for one day, so the free practice sessions were grouped next to the classification for Saturday.
So it is a time trial weekend for everyone in the paddock and, despite being a negative, MotoGP can use this circumstance as an opportunity to experiment with a two-day grand prix, something that would alleviate the logistical problems. , in addition to giving one more day of margin for the recovery of all workers.
Before the Argentine event, Andrea Dovizioso, who returns to the place where he has achieved three podiums in the premier class, wondered about the possibility of the Grand Prix being reduced to just two days in the future.
“I am very curious to try the two-day weekend,” said the 36-year-old. “I had already proposed it to the Safety Commission without any response. Unfortunately, we are in a strange situation, because we race in Argentina with a dirty track, unlike what would happen in Europe.”
“We won’t get a chance to understand how the tires work, and it will be a biased test from that point of view, but I’m happy to experiment with a two-day weekend anyway,” the Italian reaffirmed.
The WithU Yamaha RNF rider continued explaining his point of view on the reduced Grand Prix: “I had already made this proposal back in the day, surely in MotoGP time is never enough, because you have to work on many things, and this also happens with training, especially if you’re a factory rider.
“However, a three-day Grand Prix is quite long, and it doesn’t affect the show on the track. I want to try this short weekend to understand it, I’m sure that with three days it’s more relaxed, maybe I’m wrong, but at least, after of this, I will have an answer,” Dovizioso said.
The three-time MotoGP runner-up also spoke about his compatriot, Franco Morbidelli, and compared him to his teammate in the factory Yamaha team, Fabio Quartararo, about whom he highlighted his ability to work with little time available.
“When you know the bike well, you can work better than the others, as was the case for me at Ducati,” said the man from Forlì. “When you know the positive and negative aspects of the bike, you have the clearest ideas because you focus on the details.”
“Without a doubt [Quartararo] is doing a great job, we saw it last year when he won the title, and season after season you learn many things, and if there are no big changes in the team, you can work in a more incisive way”, Dovizioso sentenced.
