At the gates of what will be his fourth year in the heavy bike category, where he has always competed on a Ducati , the Turin native faces this course with the label of favorite for the MotoGP title, backed by the good results achieved in 2021, year in which he finished runner-up in the world after accumulating four wins, nine podiums and six pole positions, in total.
After his debut in Pramac (2019), where he competed until his promotion to the official team of the Borgo Panigale brand (2021), Pecco Bagnaia has become the main argument of the Bolognese constructor to be crowned again, something that in its history he has only managed Casey Stoner , in 2007.
The fact that both Bagnaia and Ducati shared a desire to prolong their relationship meant that the negotiation hardly took long, as Motorsport.com reported a couple of weeks ago.
In fact, the key elements of the new contract were settled long ago so that the #63 could focus on pre-season testing which concluded last week in Indonesia. The good performance of the broker in 2021 will allow him to considerably increase his emoluments, which will go from the base 800,000 euros, to a figure that will be around one and a half million in 2022.
“Being a Ducati rider in MotoGP has always been my dream, and being able to continue for two more seasons makes me very happy. In the official team I have found a serene atmosphere. Now I just have to concentrate on doing well in this championship”, declares Bagnaia in the official statement from the manufacturer of the red bikes.
“We are really happy to have Bagnaia for another two seasons. Since his arrival at Ducati, in 2019, Pecco has shown great talent and a great ability to interpret our prototype in the best way, adapting to riding it in any circumstance”, compliments Gigi Dall’Igna , the ‘father’ of the new Desmosedici generation.
“With these qualities, we are convinced that he has all the potential to be able to fight alongside us for the title,” adds Ducati’s top-ranking engineer and executive in the World Championship.
If Bagnaia has his position assured in the medium term, it is not so clear to Jack Miller, his workshop neighbor, that in the first half of the calendar, which starts in Qatar on March 6, he will have to win the place to which they also opt Jorge Martin and Enea Bastianini.
